Prescott Valley Historical Society Float for Prescott Valley Days, 2003
Founded in 1966 and incorporated in 1978, Prescott Valley lies at the foot of Glassford Hill, a long-extinct volcano. In the 1880s Glassford Hill, named after Colonel William A. Glassford, was used as one of several U.S. Calvary heliograph stations located throughout Arizona. Heliograph stations incorporated mirrors used to reflect Morse code to one another.
Meanwhile, the Fain family, originally from Kentucky, settled in the Camp Verde area and by the early 1990's, owned the land now known as Prescott Valley and formed the Fain Land & Cattle Company. In 1966, Prescott Valley was founded and incorporated 12 years later. Population has grown from a mere 600 in the early 70's to over 40,000 today
PrescottValley, located east of Prescott between MingusMountain and BradshawMountain, is a unique area of gently rolling hills, panoramic views, and a variety of wildlife. Cattle, horses and pronghorn antelope graze near town. Visitors may also spy Gambel quail, doves, cottontail rabbits, coyotes and the popular Road Runner.
PrescottValley is rapidly becoming home to people who visit each year, enjoy their experiences, and decide to relocate here. An enviable climate, clean air, scenic views, and a growing business environment make PrescottValley a dynamic place to call home
